Our scientist member Dr. Uchimura and Yanagida gave a talk with a title of "The sea, a scientist and a fisherman" at Okinawa Christian Junior College. We talked about the present situation of the sea surrounding Okinawa.

We offered a class to the local elementary school students on the restoration of coral, in cooperation with the Okiden Kaihatsu Company, and the Yoshimoto Creative Agency.

INO is taking part in a new environmental education program on coral as a lecturer, in cooperation with the Okiden Kaihatsu Company, and the Yoshimoto Creative Agency.

We hold an event " Let's play ocean survey, for parent and child " , with the support of Environmental Contribution Fund of THE OKINAWA KAIHO BANK. It was carried out in collaboration with Okinawa City Fishermen's Cooperative and Okinawa City Industry Exchange Center.

One of our members Yanagida takes part in the Initiative-based Project of Research Institute for Humanity and Nature,
“Creation and Sustainable Governance of New Commons through Formation of Integrated Local Environment Knowledge(ILEK project)”.

A plenary session of ILEK Project was held at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida, USA.
Yanagida attended it and gave a presentation on INO's activities at its Public Forum.

And also, he made observations and inspections of marine protected areas, and the latest techniques and studies in coral multiplication, and learned about them.

We will make good use of his experience there.

We gave a talk on The Environment and Culture of Okinawa,
together with Mr. Masayuki Tobaru, an eighty years old fisherman
in Okinawa, to Okinawa Christian Junior College students.

At the environmental education classes for junior high school students
in Okinawa, sponsored by Okiden Kaihatsu Company, Incorporated,
we gave a talk and hands-on experience of planting coral.

We delivered a lecture on marine environment from
a viewpoint of a fisherman to the students of
Hibarigaoka-gakuen junior high school, in Hyogo prefecture.

And we also provided a fieldwork in Awase tideland.

The 15th Annual Meeting of Japan Society of Outdoor Education was held in
Okinawa.
We participated as a member of the exectutive commitee.
On that day, we presented INO’s activity at the meeting.

One of our members talked in the Environmental Education class
for children provided by Okidenkaihatsu, about fishery and coral
cultivation.

One of our members had the second talk
at Okinawa Christian Junior College.

This time, he talked about the environmental conditions
of Nakagusuku Bay and activities of INO to the students.

One of our members gave a talk about “farming fishery”,
to fifth grade children, as a part of social studies,
at Takaesu elementary school, in Uruma city, Okinawa.

The National Center for Encouraging and Training New Fishery Workers
held “Seminar for Prospective Fisherman, 2011 in Fukuoka”.
One of our members was invited to it as a lecturer,
and talked about the life as a fisherman
and the surroundings of the fishery today.

One of our members gave a lecture
on how we actually work and fish in the sea,
and on activities of INO, at Okinawa Christian Junior College.

We took part in the food -education project of Okinawa prefecture.

One of our members talked about close relationship between food, nature and the environment, through introducing his experience of cultivating “Mozuku” - a kind of sea vegetable which is edible and good-, at Koza public junior high school in Okinawa city.

We cooperated in providing fishing-related experience as a part of occupational curriculum for three students of Koza public junior high school in Okinawa city.

In the course, they studied, practiced cleaning bottom of the boat, observed transplanted coral, and experienced pole-and-line fishing.

They learned the reality and the problems of marine environment, and they also learned how we had taken care of those issues and what we had achieved.

We hope that they will communicate the importance of marine blessings and resources, to their friends and other people.
